I agree. He made actual sense. He was enthusiastic. He looked like T.R. Good analogy.

We can be glimmers of light to those who are hurting. Instead of robbing others of joy, why not contribute to it? Truly be Christ to someone in dire circumstances. A friend took me out to eat. That evening of conversation and a meal I did not have t…

I recall how much it ministered to me and my family if someone just came and shook our hands, asked if we needed groceries...if we would like to go out to have a meal with them. In that time of desperate need, it was a euphoric feeling to be asked.…

I agree, Quasi. I think that lack of submission the the Holy Spirit plays in with this too.

sorry about the slopp post: let me write that last sentence: "I do recall time in which a hope would start welling up within me as I saw glimmers of light...not the carrotstick type, but small packages containing the substance of faith that gave me…

I keep thinking about this topic. I think most of us who post here a wary of labels, easy answers, and unquestioned thinking. When my mind races through the experiences I described, some of the undercurrent of conclusions I accumulated went somethin…

Okay...thanks Marsha! I am going to need lots of prayers. Between his bad heart and his Alzheimer's, I have my hands full!

Tom is doing pretty well considering! He came home today! Of course he is tired and weak, but all in all, I think he is going to recover nicely! I have no doubt all the prayers that went up for him made a difference!

Work is going well....workload is slow, but March usually is. April we will probably be doing overtime on a regular basis.

I'm going to Las Vegas in May. Union Stewardship training. A whole week! I don't know what I'll do with myself, besides taking a ton of photos.

Sorry for the delay getting back to you on your question. This work thing really gets in the way of my fun. I'm seriously annoyed that I had to back off from this and from CW.

On the recovery package, it's the financial equivalent of a camel (i.e. the horse that was designed by a committee.) For something that grew out of the legislative process, it's suboptimal by definition. It's not what I would prefer, but 60% or so of it seems to be worthwhile. I fully expect that it won't really be necessary in the end, but it's not a bad piece of insurance. I think by the end of summer or later in the fall, we'll start seeing some impact from all the other programs that have been put in place.

Generally, I look at it as something wasn't particularly well designed but probably better than nothing. In theory, I don't even think it was necessary from a technical point of view (the economy probably would have recovered without it - all other things being equal), but necessary in order to stem the wave of irrational fear that seemed to be washing over everyone in the fall. Sometimes you have to do the technically wrong thing so people can see that you're doing something and so you can start fighting the negative feedback cycle of fear and paralysis. I think from that point of view, it will end up being the effective and right thing to do.

Spreading the pain

Christians (myself included) have been at times too quick to offer shallow and hurtful answers to the suffering of people. While those answers may be well-meaning, they are misguided and in most cases, just plain wrong. Theologically ignorant. They cause hurt, pain, and loss of faith. We have used to bible not as a living ongoing story of God working in our world, but as and open and shut law book.

One of the worst cases I remember involved a woman whose child died at age 8. Someone told her th… Continue

I have not blogged in a while

have not blogged in a while, due to a very, very busy and stressful couple of months. Just to give you an overview:

I was laid off from my job, permanently. It came as a bit of a shock. I was not prepared, and there was not advance warning.

My vehicle died the day after I was let go. I had to have the clutch assembly replaced.

Almost a month now, and I have not been called for a single interview.

I am 49 years old. I am a chunky woman. How can I compete in the job market against the young an… Continue

Joy Robbers

I was in a Bible study tonight focusing on the first chapter of Philippians. Topic was joy. Something that seems to be missing from the lives of Christians, and from many church bodies.
Several things that cause rob us of our joy include: fear, illness, worrying about what others think, disobedience to God,lack of trust in God, and professional joy killers what seem to be in most churches.

Fear is a big one for me at the moment. Unemployment and concern over the future is a joy robber. Facing t… Continue

I Know Whom I Have Believed

"I know not why God's wondrous love to me He hath made known;
Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love redeemed me for His own.
But I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able
to keep that which I've committed, unto Him against that day".-Whittle & McGranahan

Doesn't get much simpler than that. I don't know all of the ins and outs of grace, I can only accept them. Sometimes we take the simple and make it difficult. Grace is one of those things. We humans attempt to attach conditi… Continue

Star Trek

I went to see the movie this afternoon. I loved it. I have watched most of the Star Trek series, and have seen all the movies. What makes them special is the bond of friendship between Kirk and Spock, and the comradeship of the crew.

Please don't thing I am being flippant, but I see the crew of the Enterprise as being a lot like I think church should be. A crew that works together toward a common goal. Leadership not obsessed with money, but with doing excellent work. A group of people who bond… Continue
